Festival 2007

Crockett-Deane Ballet was honored to experience a spectacular trip to the 2nd National Regional Dance America Festival 2007, April 23-29 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where CDB again became an Honor Company (the highest position that can be given at a Regional Dance America Festival!!). Success and accolades went to 15 Crockett-Deane Ballet (trained at Deane Dance Center) pre-professional dancers who performed in the oppulent Benedum theatre in downtown Pittsburgh.

The dancers were on the run all week taking 3 classes daily in ballet, modern, jazz and pointe beginning every morning at 8:30am and finishing every evening viewing a 3 hour performance of their peers at the Benedum Theatre. Approximately 90 pre-professional companies participated with dancers totaling more than 1,800.

Notable teachers were all around including Deborah Hadley, Laura Alonso, John Magnus, Margo Sappington, Leslie Crockett, Virginia Johnson and many many many more. There were also honored guests with big names such as Robert Barnett (he directed Atlanta Ballet for many successful years) and included our very own Barbara Crockett (she and husband Deane Crockett founded the Sacramento Ballet and were instrumental in founding Regional Dance America/Pacific).

Excitement was everywhere at the gala dinner when Samantha won a scholarship to the San Francisco Ballet Summer Session and Jaimy won a scholarship to Craft of Choreography being held this year in Seattle at the Pacific Northwest Ballet Studios.

Crockett-Deane Ballet dancers (now preparing for Sleeping Beauty on May 11, 12 & 13 at Sacramento High School Auditorium) can be proud of their accomplishments through their unrelenting hard work. Their compliments were many and well deserved.

More fun at Festival 2007 and pictures later!

    Starry Night ballet

    Crockett-Deane Ballet Company
has begun rehearsing the "Starry Night" ballet which is set to music from Mozart's Twelve Variations on the Twinkle, Twinkle theme. It is fun! It is part of our Mozart Celebration this year, the 250 anniversary of his birth. Other ballets in the Mozart Celebration are "Mozart's Razor", set to the 3rd movement of the Flute and Harp Concerto (danced on Razor scooters !) and "Spring Concerto", set to Eine Kleing Nacht Musik.

Some of the Crockett-Deane dancers performed in the "Starry Night" ballet in 2002 so it is interesting to see them execute the advanced ballet combinations now after having done the simpler ones for very young children.

We are looking forward to see Holly Shaw perform the role of the "Star", whom the Children are looking for in the evening sky. Holly is dancing quite well as are all the dancers in her class. Besides appearing as the "Star" in "Starry Night" she will lead the Wilis in "Giselle" this year. Holly has wonderful jump and extension with which she moves beautifully through the demanding choreography of "Myrta, Queen of the Wilis". Above is a picture of Holly performing the role of the "Dove" in "The Story of Noah's Ark."
